Position Summary

The Resource Specialist is responsible for identifying and exploring viable and appropriate kinship permanency options and/or kinship supports for youth, as assigned, who are not able to live with their biological parent or whose rights were terminated. This position will research and explore a youth’s ecology, past and present, to seek potential options including interviews, documentation research, and file history. Exploring potential options for permanency may require exploring the family of origin as well other meaningful connections a youth may have while utilizing detective skills to gain information regarding possible placements/supports. The position will collaborate with the youth’s treatment team to ensure that accurate information is gathered in a timely manner and will communicate ongoing efforts and progress toward identifying placement/supports. The Resource Specialist will be involved with the initial linkage between youth, viable/appropriate kinship placement/support, and the program to facilitate a warm transition to the program to continue working towards permanency.

Responsibilities

Clinical and Support

  1. Fosters and maintains collaborative relationships and communicates regularly with all professionals both within and outside of the organization and collaborate with other Pressley Ridge programs as appropriate if seeking to assist in targeted recruitment of a potential foster/adoptive family.
  2. Interviews the youth and individuals who have knowledge of the child and/or history as appropriate.
  3. Utilizes historical files to determine potential lost or unidentified connections.
  4. Follows leads as determined appropriate.
  5. Explores terminated parental rights for possible changes in circumstance which may allow for this option of family to be reassessed.
  6. Uses sensitivity and conservative measures to explore potential options.
  7. Utilizes Outlook calendar and keep their direct supervisor apprised of scheduled activities.

Communication

  1. Maintains regular contact with the youth’s placing agent and Pressley Ridge representative.
  2. Communicates all program philosophies, goals and procedures to treatment team members.
  3. Attend meetings as invited or assigned.
  4. Completes written work that is legible, accurate and uses professional language.
  5. Writes reports as required.

Documentation

  1. Maintains record/log of activities including entries into the youth’s permanent record according to procedure.
  2. Follows expectations for documentation of activities.
  3. Meets regulatory and programmatic timelines for submitting paperwork.

Risk

  1. Follows licensing regulations regarding documentation.
  2. Requires the ability to detect, correct, and communicate any safety concerns that arise.

Professional Development

  1. Completes all training requirements as identified
  2. Participates in ongoing professional development trainings
  3. Achieves professional development goals as identified in performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education/Credentials/Licensure:

    1. Bachelor’s Degree in human services field.
    2. Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
    3. Experience:

        1. One year experience working with children and/or families preferred.
        2. Clearances:

            1. State Police
            2. FBI
            3. Child Abuse Clearances
            4. CPSL Mandated Reporter-Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse training per state regulation.

              Physical Demands

              1. This position requires operating office equipment 50% of the day. Fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, elbows, legs and feet are used 70% the day. The lower and upper torso is used 30% of the day. Employee must meet minimum requirements for hearing, speech, and vision. Walking is required 40% of the day. Standing occurs 40% of the day. Sitting happens 10% of the day. Reaching above the shoulder as well as bending and twisting are performed 10% of the day. This function routinely lifts 15 pounds, 4 times per day. The maximum lift is over 50 pounds, 1 time per day. The position requires the ability to implement physical interventions and meet the physical demands of TCI. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

              Mental Demands

              1. Occasionally requires the need to concentrate and handle distractions that interfere. Frequently requires a need for quick decisions and handle a diversity of problems. Continually performs multiple tasks.

              Working Hours

              1. 40-hour work week, variable schedule based on program need.
