The University of Texas Permian Basin's Center for Counseling welcomes applications for the position of Mental Health Counselor
Salary Range
$50.00 an hour
Essential Functions
The primary purpose of this position is to enhance student success by providing counseling services, including the assessment and treatment of students. In addition, this position may provide consultation to UTPB community members and preventative and educational outreach initiatives. CAPS is committed to providing a range of mental health and wellness services to help students succeed. These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, foster resilience, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-based support, crisis support, group counseling, and brief individual counseling when indicated.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the university
- Provide individual, couples, and group therapy to UTPB students
- Provide crisis on-call service in rotation with other clinical staff
- Provide crisis/triage assessment and response to students as needed
- Participate in various training programs housed within the Counseling Center
- Provide outreach programming and consultations to campus community
- Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for Professional Counselors or Social Workers (as relevant to credentials) in the state of TX
- Maintain licensure as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker (as relevant to credentials) within the state of TX
- Coordinate one or more areas of Counseling Center service as requested by Director
- Maintain compliance with Counseling Center Policies and Procedures
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Clinical/Counseling psychology or in Social Work
- Fully Licensed as an LPC, LPA, or LCSW in the State of TX
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a University Counseling Center
- Experience with Public Speaking

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
