The Position

The Assistant Director of Outreach is responsible for the supervision of program implementation for various LA Family Housing Street Based Engagement Teams (SBET) that serve single adults, families, and youth experiencing homelessness in Service Planning Areas (SPA) 1 & 2. The Assistant Director will provide guidance, direction, and clinical support to SBET and direct supervision, development, and support of Program Managers. Duties include but are not limited to staffing oversight and executing the Directors vision for staff development, increased staff morale and retention. In partnership with the Director, the Assistant Director will conduct program assessments, analysis of program gaps, and implement identified clinical service models to ensure effective service delivery. The Assistant Director of Outreach will ensure proper documentation, enrollment rates, and program data are maintained and accurately reported in appropriate databases. The Assistant Director of Outreach will perform a variety of skilled duties directly related to program management activities, including but not limited to, reviewing reports and ensuring contractual outcomes are met and milestones are consistently assessed, as set forth by the Director, Deputy Chief Programs Officer and Chief Programs Officer.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for the overall service provision of Outreach and Street Based Engagement Team activities which includes excellent customer service, and orientation to agency programs
  • Provides clinical case consultations as needed to staff when working with persons in crisis or experiencing symptoms of mental and/or physical illness who are in distress
  • Ensures Outreach Managers are supporting their teams in upholding the goals of CES to reduce street homelessness by linking program participants to mental health, health services, housing services, and other supportive services based on eligibility
  • Identifies and engages in opportunities to coach and professionally develop Outreach Managers in supporting their respective teams
  • Select, supervise, coach, evaluate and report on the professional development and job performance of direct reports. Assist with elevated Human Resource concerns across teams
  • Work with Program Managers to ensure contract compliance is met, documents and forms are completed correctly, case-noting is completed in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and processes and procedures are followed and thoroughly implemented
  • Maintains program participant information in appropriate rosters and trackers. Must be able to utilize excel spreadsheets for the completion of back-up documentation of data entry into HMIS
  • Works closely with the Director and Data Manager to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for program(s) and contracting agencies
  • Regularly liaise with the Quality Assurance team: comply with requests for program data, coordinate with Managers/Staff in completing all data necessary for reports and participate in preparation for program/contract audits as needed and directed by Program Director
  • Coordinates Outreach activities in SPAs 1 and 2 as assigned by Director and works with Outreach Managers to ensure teams participate in outreach coordination activities, as assigned
  • Attends regular staff and agency meetings. Represent the agency/program in community meetings, as well as to potential donors and volunteers.
  • Maintain communication with LAFH Asset Management and FMO Department to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of the physical facilities and work areas
  • Additional tasks, projects and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

What You're Skilled At

  • Proficient in staff supervision
  • Demonstrates sound decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with the Coordinated Entry System (CES) and its goals
  • Management experience in social services or non-profit sector, capable of working both independently and collaboratively
  • Thorough knowledge of issues affecting homeless single adults, including chronic health conditions, substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, and resources available for undocumented individuals. Detail-oriented with strong ability to comply with program requirements.
  • Effective collaboration with various teams and programs within LAFH and the community
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Adaptable to change and flexible in work environment
  • Strong organizational skills, from project initiation to completion
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency preferred
  • Highly preferred experience with HMIS

Other

  • Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Ability to pass post offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances
  • Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Physical Exam
  • Travel between San Fernando Valley and Antilope Valley is a regular duty for this position. Travel is required 40% of the time
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required
  • Must have and maintain a valid California Drivers License and auto insurance in good standing.
  • Ability to work a 9/80 work schedule
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends if needed

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) of social service experience. Experience in homeless services preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant management experience
