Shift: Full-time, MondayFriday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Join our team at the Robert Young Center as a Peer Recovery Specialist! The Peer Support Specialist, under the indirect supervision of the Department Manager, provides care to consumers utilizing Robert Young Centers Trauma-Informed Care principles. As a member of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Team, this role provides recovery-oriented, in-home, and community-based services for adults with severe mental illness.

This position delivers comprehensive case management and psychosocial rehabilitation through outreach-focused services, along with crisis intervention support as needed. The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate clinical documentation and consistently demonstrating Trinitys mission, values, and principles in all interactions with clients, families, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.

Responsibilities
  • Assures consumers receive clinically sound triage, referral, and ongoing behavioral health services by collecting information needed for accurate assessment and participating in treatment plan development.
  • Provides mentoring, individual and group support, and teaches self-advocacy, motivation, and recovery-focused skills through ongoing engagement and feedback.
  • Delivers assertive community outreach and sustained efforts to engage clients, including linkage to services such as psychiatric care, medication management, and representative payee support.
  • Evaluates and monitors consumer treatment plans through follow-up assessments and recommends adjustments based on clinical findings and changing needs.
  • Responds to crisis situations by providing intervention, recommendations, and appropriate support to stabilize and assist clients.
  • Utilizes peer support tools such as WRAP, NAMI programs, and psychoeducation to promote wellness, recovery, and client understanding of illness, medications, and treatment.
  • Maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation while demonstrating UnityPoint Health values, compliance standards, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
Qualifications Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience:

  • Ability to collect and assess client information and apply critical thinking/problem-solving
  • Ability to work with clients, families, and community partners in a professional and sensitive manner
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EMR systems

License(s)/Certification(s):

  • Certified Peer Support Specialist (PRS) in the State of Iowa required
  • Must complete Appalachian Consulting Group Peer Support Training Model within 6 months of hire
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required within 6 months of hire
