Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:

Primary Purpose of Position:
To support the mission of Student Health Services by providing integrated behavioral health care that promotes primary medical care, disease prevention, health education, and wellness for all UNCP students. This position plays a vital role in a collaborative, student-centered care model that enhances student well-being and academic success.
Job Description:
The Behavioral Health Care Manager ( BHCM ) serves as a vital member of the Student Health Services team, advancing the universitys commitment to holistic student well-being by integrating behavioral health into a primary care setting. Working within a collaborative care model, the BHCM partners closely with medical providers, a psychiatric consultant, and campus and community stakeholders to ensure students receive coordinated, accessible, and effective care that addresses both physical and mental health needs.
In this role, the BHCM provides direct, student-centered behavioral health services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, and ongoing care management for a unique college population. Utilizing evidence-based approaches such as motivational interviewing, behavioral activation, and problem-solving treatment, the BHCM supports students in addressing common mental health and substance use concerns while promoting resilience, self-management, and academic success. The position emphasizes timely access to care, continuity of services, and proactive engagement strategies to support students throughout their wellness journey.
The BHCM is responsible for coordinating care across providers and settings, monitoring student progress, and adjusting treatment plans based on clinical outcomes and evolving needs. Through regular case review and consultation, the BHCM contributes to team-based decision-making and ensures that treatment recommendations are effectively communicated and implemented. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, managing patient records to track outcomes, and using data to inform care delivery and re-engage students who may be at risk of falling out of care.
Beyond direct clinical work, the BHCM plays a key role in supporting Student Health Services broader mission of health promotion and prevention. This includes contributing to outreach initiatives, fostering connections with students through both in-person and virtual platforms, and collaborating with campus partners to enhance awareness of mental health resources. The BHCM demonstrates a strong commitment to culturally responsive, ethical, and confidential care, while maintaining flexibility and collaboration in a dynamic university environment.
This is a grant funded position through June 30, 2030.
This position is Mandatory Personnel: Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events.
Management Preference:
Experience providing behavioral health services, preferably in a college health, primary care, or integrated care setting.
Training in evidence-based interventions (e.g., motivational interviewing, behavioral activation, problem-solving treatment).
Experience with mental health and/or substance use screening and assessment.
Knowledge of young adult development and college student mental health needs are preferred.
Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation:
Current, unrestricted licensure (e.g., LCSW , LCMHC , LMFT , LCAS , or equivalent).
