This position is for the 2026-2027 School Year only.

Salary: $53,683.89-$99,647.38 (DOE), prorated based upon FTE.

Insurance: Generous Health, dental, and vision contribution from the district, currently up to $2277 (based upon family coverage), prorated based upon FTE.

PERS Retirement: The district assumes and pays the 6% average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Position Summary:

Klamath Union High School is seeking a compassionate and student-centered part-time High School Counselor to support the academic, social-emotional, and college/career development of students. The counselor will work collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners to ensure all students have access to resources, guidance, and opportunities for success. This position emphasizes equity, relationship-building, and proactive support for student achievement and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide academic counseling, including course selection, credit tracking, and graduation planning.
  • Support students’ social-emotional development through individual and small group counseling.
  • Assist students with college and career planning, including postsecondary options, applications, financial aid, and scholarships.
  • Collaborate with CTE staff to support career pathway development and student transitions beyond high school.
  • Monitor student progress and intervene as needed to support at-risk students.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of student support plans (e.g., 504 Plans, MTSS, and intervention strategies).
  • Respond to student crises and provide appropriate support and referrals.
  • Coordinate with families, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies to support student success.
  • Maintain accurate student records and ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines (e.g., FERPA).
  • Deliver classroom guidance lessons on topics such as academic planning, mental health, and career readiness.
  • Support school-wide initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive school climate.
  • Participate in IEP meetings as appropriate and collaborate with special education staff.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
  • Valid Oregon School Counselor license (or ability to obtain).
  • Experience working with high school students preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of academic planning, graduation requirements, and postsecondary pathways.
  • Understanding of social-emotional development and mental health support for adolescents.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practices.
Work Environment:
  • Work primarily takes place in an office and school setting.
  • Frequent interaction with students, families, staff, and community partners.
  • Participation in staff meetings, student support teams, and professional development.
  • May require occasional extended hours during peak periods (e.g., scheduling, college application season).
