As a Public Health Educator 1 or 2 within the Sumter County Health Department at the Georgia Department of Public Health , you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

This position will be based in Americus, GA and is Not a Remote position. You will support the Department by utilizing your expertise to fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Link individuals living with HIV into medical care and other supportive services.
  • Function as the liaison for local medical providers, hospitals, clinics, plasma centers, and other organizations within the 16 counties of the WCHD that refer patients for HIV medical care and support.
  • This position is crucial in meeting the States goal of linking individuals to care within 30 days and helping to capture and report data to State agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Health Educator 1 - (Hire-in salary - $35,618.70)
Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university.

Health Educator 2 - (Hire-in salary - $38,452.58)
Bachelor's degree in education, social, behavioral, or biological sciences or a directly related field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of experience in public health education or one (1) year of experience at the lower-level Health Educator 1 (HCP030) or position equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: At least one year of experience in the field of HIV/STD. Public Health experience; Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills to complete documentation, monthly reports and data entry. Must be able to effectively interact and establish relationships with clients, medical providers, community partners, and all levels of internal personnel. This position requires the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously.
All West Central Health District 7 employees are deemed essential workers in the event of an emergency. As such, you may be called on to participate in an event including but not limited to staffing a shelter, working at a Specimen Point of Collection Site (SPOC) and/or working at a Point of Dispensing site (POD). If you are called on to participate, you are required to report to the designated site as a condition of employment, whether the emergency occurs during or outside regular work hours.

Georgia Department of Public Health Commissioner and leaders encourages all employees to engage in regular physical activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. The use of physical breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and assist employees in meeting their physical goals. A maximum of 30 minutes in a given workday may be used to engage in physical activities, generally in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.

DPH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered. DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
