QUALIFICATIONS: Valid School Counselor License, interim authorization to serve as school counselor, endorsement on teacher license (NT) oreligibility for a substitute permit with appropriate testing and program acceptance. Knowledge of the American School Counselor Association National Model and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS). Understanding of student confidentiality regulations including FERPA and HIPAA. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and advocacy for all students. Experience using student achievement, attendance, behavioral, and postsecondary data to support student success and program improvement. Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams. Knowledge of postsecondary planning processes including college, career, military, workforce, scholarship, and financial aid opportunities. Ability to support students' academic, career, social, and emotional development through individual planning, responsive services, and school counseling curriculum. JOB GOALS: The High School Counselor supports the academic achievement, career and postsecondary readiness, and social/emotional development of all students through a comprehensive, data-informed school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association framework. The counselor advocates for equitable access to opportunities and supports the development of the whole child to ensure students are prepared for enrollment, employment, or enlistment following graduation. The Career Center integrates technology into many career and technical programs, including business services and drafting and design with industry-standard CAD-CAM software. Marie Area Public School District is located at the northernmost end of I-75 on the Canadian border in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.
