    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Collaborates with the Supervisor of Social Services and other district support personnel in removing academic, social or familial barriers that may be prohibiting the student from experiencing academic success.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:
    Bachelor's degree in social work plus state licensure
    Three years successful practice in the field of social work preferred
    Effective written and oral communication skills
    Special Knowledge/Skills:
    Knowledge of individual and group counseling skills
    Knowledge and skill in casework methods
    Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
    Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies
    Awareness and ability to access community resources
    Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    Instructional Management

    • Works with the Supervisor of Social Services to plan, organize, and coordinate professional growth opportunities for district- wide personnel.
    • Collaborates with school personnel, through consultation, in the development of strategies to enhance student functional skills.
    • Works cooperatively with administration and staff in the identification of student needs and in obtaining appropriate services.
    • Mobilizes parent support for students' educational programming.

    School/Organizational Climate

    • Communicates effectively with counselors, staff, and students.
    • Intervenes early in problem situations to facilitate conflict resolution and to prevent more serious difficulties.
    • Initiates and supports programs that facilitate a positive, caring educational climate.
    • Assists families in understanding their child's educational needs and the resources available in the school and the community.

    School/Organizational Improvement

    • Develops, implements and maintains a successful student assistance service program to reduce risk factors in children's learning in collaboration with the Supervisor of Social Services and district-wide personnel.
    • Serves as a resource to administrators and counselors in crisis situations.
    • Enables families to convey their concerns to school personnel and maintains open lines of communication.
    • Works in collaboration with parental involvement programs in pursuit of avenues which will enable parents to be more involved with their child's school program and school activities.

    Personnel Management

    • Works cooperatively with all departments in regards to students' needs.
    • Collaborates with counselors and teachers in meeting the needs of students.
    • Provides counseling resources and materials to campus administrators, counselors, and teachers within the limits of available resources.

    Administration and Fiscal Management

    • Complies with district policies, state and federal guidelines.

    Student Management

    • Provides individual, group and family counseling.
    • Provides assessment, consultation, and referral services.
    • Maintains confidentiality.
    • Provides crisis counseling and intervention to students, as needed.
    • Works collaboratively with all professionals, auxiliary personnel, and community resources to assist students in accessing available resources.
    • Consults with teachers and student services regarding student's familial and community situations.
    • Participates in efforts to help students overcome barriers to school attendance and achievement.

    Professional Growth and Development

    • Participates in local, state, and national professional organizations to maintain certification and license status.
    • Participates in professional development programs which lead to improved job performance.
    • Utilizes and shares information in professional development programs.

    School/Community Relations

    • Promotes collaboration and coordination between school and community on a continuous basis.
    • Provides information to facilitate the family's use of community resources.
    • Maintains open communication between schools and community agencies to facilitate common objectives in situations requiring interagency collaboration.
    • Participates in seminars and workshops on special topics such as family systems, substance use, depression, loss and grief.
    • Assists the community in identifying and developing resources to better serve the needs of students.
    • Performs all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
