Summary of Duties

The Director of Financial Assistance helps create a pathway to financial freedom for those at CTK Bellingham (or CTK Network) by drawing on the truth of Scripture, the grace of Jesus, and the Spirit-led generosity of the church. This role provides connection to community resources, offers faith-based financial literacy classes, prayerfully discerns next steps, and ensures wise stewardship of Blessing funds.

Essential Functions

Financial Assistance

  • Assess the full picture of CTKers in financial need and prayerfully determine how best to assist, which may include financial assistance, brainstorming and goal setting, referrals to community resources
  • Screen and process counseling and scholarship requests
  • Identify CTKers who would benefit from and are interested in meeting regularly to plot a course towards sustainability, including problem solving, goal setting, and financial coaching and education
  • Coordinate the Christmas Blessing for CTKers nominated from staff and key volunteers
  • Regularly offer faith-based financial literacy groups, workshops, and classes

Administration

  • Write and track annual budget, coordinate payments
  • Communicate CTK Blessing stories and information in an accessible way both internally and to the public
  • Send out grief books as requested by ministry staff

Integration

  • Initiate collaboration with other CTK staff and departments for appropriate referrals
  • Attend all staff and departmental meetings to ensure excellent team collaboration and alignment with the CTK mission
  • Assist with other Blessing Team projects as needed

Community Resourcing

  • Meet with local referral agencies to understand resources available and build collaboration
  • Maintain an accessible, up-to-date compilation of community resources
  • Assist walk-ins in connecting to the available resources relevant to their need
Requirements
  • Experience working with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds (poverty, middle-class, and wealth), in a ministry, social service, or volunteer role
  • High level of discernment, approaching complex issues as a listener to both the client and the Holy Spirit
  • Ability to balance discernment with compassion, seeking to see them as God does rather than defined by their situation
  • Active Christian faith that finds God in the midst of difficult life circumstances
  • Eager to learn, flexible, enjoys change
  • Basic skill with MS Office, Google Suite, database, and financial tracking
