Family Crisis Intervention Specialist

PRIMARY PURPOSE/FUNCTION OF POSITION:
To provide onsite crisis intervention and mediation services to youth ages 10-18 years old and their parents for the purpose of runaway prevention; diversion from involvement with the juvenile justice system and connection with community supports to enhance well-being.
REPORTS TO: Runaway and Homeless Youth Services Coordinator
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Respond to the need for assistance in disputes involving youth and their families in tandem with law enforcement, referring community partners and directly from youth and families requesting services.
Provide phone and onsite crisis intervention and mediation services.
Make referrals for support services, when appropriate by assessing safety and immediate needs for youth and families.
Assist with follow up contacts as requested by Coordinator.
Complete required programmatic and agency training on an annual basis to meet the needs of families served.
Complete documentation of services in a timely fashion in accordance with program requirements.
Communicate regularly with RHY Coordinator and other team members according to program procedures to ensure safety and quality service delivery.
Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
HOURS: Relief, flexibility needed for on-call schedule, including weekends, holidays, evenings and overnights shifts.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:
Candidates must possess the ability to communicate effectively with people in crisis situations and experience in crisis intervention is essential. All candidates must be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and have reliable transportation. A Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, or related human service field and a minimum of one year of related job experience along with a working knowledge of the criminal justice system and community social services is preferred.
