Ogle County Court Services and Probation – Adult Probation Officer Opening
The Ogle County Court Services Department is currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Adult Probation Officer.
Position Title: Adult Probation Officer
Location: Oregon, Illinois
Salary: $47,843.65 annually (with consideration given for prior job-related experience)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Status: Full-time, FOP Union Position
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor justice-involved individuals in compliance with conditions of probation.
- Conduct pre-sentence, pre-plea, and other investigative reports for the court.
- Develop individualized case plans focusing on accountability, rehabilitation, and public safety.
- Conduct in-office and field contacts, including home and employment visits.
- Administer drug and alcohol testing as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely case notes and documentation in compliance with AOIC and department standards.
- Utilize validated risk and needs assessments to guide supervision strategies.
- Monitor compliance with court orders and recommend appropriate sanctions or incentives.
- Testify in court proceedings and make appropriate recommendations to the court.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, treatment providers, and social service agencies.
- Respond to probation violations and assist in case planning and intervention.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards.
- Participate in mandatory training and professional development.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in criminal justice, social work,
psychology, sociology, or related field. - Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse caseload effectively and prioritize tasks independently.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and evidence-based practices is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems.
- Ability to work with justice-involved individuals with professionalism, fairness, and consistency.
- Must be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, court personnel, law enforcement, and community resources.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Must pass a criminal background check and meet all pre-employment standards established by the
Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts. - Must adhere to the Illinois Supreme Court Code of Professional Conduct for Probation and Court Services Personnel.

On-Call Requirements:
This position includes participation in an on-call rotation as required by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Employees assigned to on-call duties must be available to respond to calls within the designated time frame and must not be under the influence of any substances that could impair judgment. Compensation for on-call status is provided in accordance with the terms outlined in the CBA.
