The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Mental Health and Wellness Program Manager in the City's Department of Emergency Management. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.
Under limited supervision, provides support, assistance, information, marketing, training, education, and counseling to assist City of Henderson employees in coping with mental health wellness-related concerns and stress management; and performs related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate for this role is a highly-skilled professional with extensive experience in mental health. They also have experience in leading a team, program management, and working with first responders or military services. They possess a deep understanding of crisis intervention, behavioral health support, and strategies to proactively help first responders and city employees overall wellness. They are adept at assessing risk, de-escalating crises, and developing proactive approaches to address mental health needs within the public safety and government sector.
Note: This position supports all employees at the City of Henderson including the Fire and Police Departments which operate on a 24-hour/7-day per week schedule. This position will be required to respond to urgent situations at night, on weekends, and on holidays.

- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in counseling, psychology, social work, sociology, human services, or a closely related field
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in mental health counseling, crisis intervention, substance abuse counseling, public safety, or a closely related field; two (2) years of which must have been at the supervisory level
- Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
- Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
- Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six (6) months of hire/transfer and be recertified every year. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
- Must obtain and maintain a certificate in individual and group Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) within six (6) months of hire and as a condition of continued employment
- Desirable: Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC) or Substance Abuse Counselor in the State of Nevada
- Desirable: An appropriate license to practice as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
- Desirable: Certification for treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI), or Mindfulness/Wellness Therapies
- All required licenses and certificates, as mandated by local, state, and federal laws, or as required herein, must be obtained and maintained as a condition of continued employment and at the incumbents expense
