Job Description

While we prefer to hire a full-time employee, we are open to hiring a part-time position.  Our DUI Certified Professional positions offer a range of services within the scope of Florida DUI Program Services. There are several certifications of which at least one is required to hold this position:  DUI Evaluator, SSS Evaluator, Level I DUI Instructor, Level II DUI Instructor.

Our positions are designed to allow for increases in compensation rates, based on the number and type of services you provide for DUI Counterattack.

DUI Evaluator:  Conducts DUI Evaluations which is a risk assessment (similar to a psychosocial assessment) where you assess the offenders risk for reoffending which includes the risk for developing and/or the presence of a substance use disorder.  Based on the risk level, you determine if a referral to substance use disorder treatment is required.  If so, you facilitate the referral and communicate with the client the consequences for not following through.

SSS Evaluator:  Performs psychosocial assessment for applicants and ongoing updates at regular intervals for clients accepted into the program.  All clients are required to follow all program requirements including total abstinence and specific driving restrictions.  You will assess the client’s current stability and stressors as it relates to relationships, health, employment, finance, as well as any driving infractions or illegal behaviors. The goal is to assist the client in avoiding relapse and imposing consequences if they do.

Level I DUI Instructor:  Provide the DHSMV approved 12-hour DUI Course design for first-time DUI offenders.  The course focus on DUI as a choice and is facilitated in a traditional class modality.

Level II DUI Instructor:  Provide the DHSMV approved 21-hour DUI Course designed for multiple DUI offenders.  While this is in a classroom setting, the course includes a substantive amount of group activities and requires a person with significant therapeutic group experience.

Regardless of your duties, you will be providing the critical services of assisting us in reducing DUI caused deaths, injuries, and arrests. While challenging, these positions are equally rewarding.

A Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Health or Criminology and at least 2 years of direct services within the field of Behavioral Health is required.   If only seeking certification as an Instructor, other degrees are permitted, but at no time substitute for the experience required.  Direct services with persons experiencing substance use disorders or assessment of the same is greatly preferred. Further experience with person mandated to comply with program requirements is also preferred.  While you will be referring people to services they need, the client’s do not always understand and/or accept that need.

Extensive on the job training is offered as part of employment. A basic understanding of substance use disorders, and impaired driving is necessary.

You will be hired and your initial training will start with one of the certifications. Once you demonstrate that you are competent to provide the service, you will receive a pay increase with each certification. We have two initial tracks 1) DUI Evaluations and DUI Instructing or 2) DUI Evaluations, Special Supervision Services, and IID Services. If you hold current FL DHSMV DUI Certifications and can demonstrate competency, your starting rate would be commensurate to those qualifications.

You are required to document all services in an Access database called Compliance Manager. This requires that you be able to accurately type while interviewing clients at a minimum of 35 words per minute.

You are required to review and assess arrest records, driving records, required testing instruments, analyze Ignition Interlock performance, and follow strict guidelines for making referrals to treatment.

You must be able to concisely document appointments and work cooperatively with all the staff of our small company.

The ability to encourage resistant clients to open up and be as honest as possible is a critical ability. Equally important is the ability to thoughtfully and tactfully address inconsistent or inaccurate information provided by clients.

Many of our clients have very little understanding of how substances impair driving and DUI laws. Most have demonstrated poor decision making skills and some have addictions to substances. Most can control when they use a substance, but lose control once they have begun.

We strive with each and every appointment to connect with clients. This is imperative as we help them recognize we are attempting to assist them in never returning to DUI behaviors in the future.
