Job Description:Central Virginia Community College is located in Lynchburg, Virginia, in view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. CVCC is a comprehensive two-year institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 5,000 students in occupational/technical programs and university-parallel/college transfer programs.

This position serves as community college academic advisor to the general high school population. Empower students to make informed decisions about their career and educational plans. Assist students in developing individualized career plans that guide their progression from high school to postsecondary education and training. Connect students with dual enrollment opportunities. Work closely with high school faculty, guidance counselors, and CVCC personnel to recruit students and ease the transition of students from high school to CVCC . Assist students and their parents with college admission and financial aid applications. Collect and maintain a variety of data, prepare reports, and attend planning meetings.

Special Assignments:

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications:
Experience in counseling, Psychology, Student Personnel related area or equivalent. Working knowledge of academic requirements for high school and community colleges and career qualifications/opportunities. Experience providing higher education related academic advising and career information to a variety of individuals. Able to communicate effectively with high school students, parents, high school and college staff, and the community in the delivery of advising services. Must have strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Additional Considerations:
Experience as a counselor in an educational (college/high school) setting with emphasis on academic and vocational counseling. Experience recruiting students and marketing a variety of programs.
