Job Description

Program Therapist

Our therapists spend considerable time integrated into the milieu, where close personal relationships are built and corrective emotional experiences can occur on an ongoing basis. In addition, our therapists conduct staffings, create treatment plans, provide individual and family therapy, and complete required clinical documentation in a timely manner. They also communicate regularly with families and referral sources.

We look to the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, along with attachment-based therapy approaches, to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies. Interest in treatment of developmental trauma strongly preferred. This position offers the unique opportunity to receive training from Dr. Bruce Perry and the Child Trauma Academy. Background and training in family therapy preferred.

A successful candidate generates creative solutions and new ideas, has excellent relationship skills and enjoys working as part of a team.

  • Master's level or PhD in Psychology, Social Work, or related field is required
  • License eligible in the state of New Mexico
  • Experience in an attachment-based clinical setting is welcome but not critical for hire, as we provide extensive training
  • Salary is dependent on previous experience and salary history
  • This is a FT position. Days will be determined upon hire
  • Pre-employment drug screen required

Our Program

Sandhill Center is an innovative, nationally-recognized residential program for children between the ages of five and thirteen who are experiencing significant difficulties in functioning at home, in school, or in the community. Most of our residents can't adequately regulate their emotional or mental states because of early attachment disruptions or barriers, and therefore present with serious emotional and behavioral challenges.

Our goal as treatment providers for children with attachment issues is to create an environment in which care and nurture are hard to resist. Our treatment model encourages the development of close personal relationships, while confronting behaviors that interfere with that closeness. We look to recent brain research to help us create powerful, focused intervention strategies.

We are located in Los Lunas, a rural community about 20 miles south of Albuquerque, NM. The facility is located in a homelike setting, with horses and two riding arenas, dogs, a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, etc.
