KIND is dedicated to providing both pro bono legal representation and positive systemic changes in both law and policy to benefit unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children. KIND is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities: KIND seeks a Case Worker to provide critical social services support to a pilot project that seeks to 1) support the return and social reintegration of unaccompanied Guatemalan children who are being deported or voluntarily departing the United States; and 2) help KIND and its project partners achieve the goal of developing a return and reintegration model that can be replicated in other countries. The Case Worker’s responsibilities will include: 1) Working closely with KIND’s legal services staff to identify potential project participants among those Guatemalan children served by KIND facing the possibility of return to their home country; 2) Working with the returning child’s legal team and other parties to develop a care plan addressing the child’s medial, social, educational, job skills, and familial needs that will support their successful return and reintegration into Guatemalan society; 3) Cultivating strong, dynamic relationships with NGO partners in Guatemala and appropriate agencies serving unaccompanied children in the US and Guatemalan governments; 4) Coordinating with the Project Director to develop a system for gathering and reporting data needed to support the formulation of a replicable return and reintegration model; 5) Developing and maintaining confidential case files specific to each child participant in the project. Minimum Qualifications: 1) Licensed social worker (LCSW), preferably with a background in immigration policy and/or child protection; 2) Excellent organizational skills, and ability to work independently on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; 3) Exceptional written and oral communication skills, teambuilding skills, and passion for the plight of unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children; 4) Experience with social services delivery and the ability to be a well- respected and effective representative with agencies that have jurisdiction over unaccompanied immigrant children’s immigration proceedings and welfare within the US Government as well as equivalent agencies within the Guatemalan government; and 5) Fluent in Spanish and familiar with Latin American cultures.
