Classes are offered at several locations, and online classes and telecourses are also available. More than 36,000 students take credit or noncredit classes at Lane each year. Lane has the third largest enrollment of the 17 community colleges in Oregon. Lane serves a 4,600 square mile area from the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean (this is an area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined).Lane has received many awards and accolades for its innovative programs and high quality instruction. Such training must include a significant component of counseling practice under professional supervision. Preferred Education Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology or related field, and/or with licensure in a clinical field. EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Experience Three (3) years working with students or prospective students providing the following: career, personal, and academic counseling in an individual, group, or educational setting. Preferred Experience Multicultural experience - specific focus working with African American, Asian American, Latino(a), and/or Native American populations. Stronger preference with bilingual proficiency in Spanish. Bilingual/Multicultural Statement: Multicultural and/or Spanish/Asian bilingual ability are preferred. A demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity is expected. Equivalency Statement: Position Purpose: Provide teaching, career and personal counseling, and academic advising services to Lane Community College students and prospective students. Serve as a member of an integrated instructional, counseling and advising team that provides services to academic divisions at the College and to undeclared and general transfer students through the Counseling and Advising Center. Counselors' team and teaching assignments may change to best meet the needs of the students and the College. The assignment for this position may be to an instructional department or division. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Provide services, including career and personal counseling, to a diverse student population.*Provide educational and retention/personal counseling in individual and group settings to enhance student success.*Teach Human Development courses, such as: Human Relations at Work; College Success; Coping with Stress and Depression; Lift Transitions; Career and Life Planning; and Eliminating Self-Defeating Behaviors; with an integrated psycho-educational, holistic approach.*Participate in the development of diversity-based curriculum and in Department and College diversity initiatives.*Maintain appropriate written documentation, record keeping, and data collection.*Provide academic advising, including assisting students to develop academic plans for certificate, associate degree, and transfer programs.*Utilize and accurately interpret testing and assessment instruments associated with counseling, career development, and academic advising services.*Provide crisis intervention and referral services as needed.*Serve as a liaison between the Counseling Department and academic departments, divisions, the community, and other assigned work groups.*Work with students and/or staff in a manner that is respectful, ethical, effective, and productive within College and counseling confidentiality guidelines. Ensure such practice is done regardless of age, color, disability, gender, gender identity or expression, social class, marital status, national origin, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, veteran's status, nationality, age, language, origin or employment status.*Work within the College's and the Counseling Department's vision, mission, goals, values and strategic directions.*Actively collaborate in the development and implementation of student success and retention delivery models, curriculum and activities.
