The Second Step’s Transitional Housing Program Residential Services Coordinator Background: The Second Step (TSS) seeks to break the cycle of domestic violence, one family at a time, by providing services to individuals and families that enable them to remain free from abusive relationships and live successful lives. Those individuals and families who enter our program have successfully taken the first step away from domestic violence. TSS provides support and advocacy services to connect them with a broad range of services/referrals, including education and employment training, permanent housing search, mental health & addiction services, legal services, parenting support and community advocacy support. Primary Objectives: The Residential Services Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining a supportive residential environment for survivors and their children to move forward in their lives. The residence typically houses 8 families at a time. The Residential Services Coordinator is responsible for implementing advocacy services within the philosophical framework of the agency including trauma-informed; strength based and empowering practice. The Residential Services Coordinator position can be divided into seven areas: intake, case management, community building, supervision, documentation, agency linkages and projects. Intake: The Residential Services Coordinator collaborates with other staff to maintain full census in the house including conducting interviews and orienting women upon arrival. Case management: Responsibilities include developing service plans with residents that address a variety of needs such as medical, legal, educational, employment, benefits, mental health; work closely with other residential staff to assist the individuals and families in obtaining their goals; actively engage in networking with community service providers to locate programs and resources that support families. The Residential Services Coordinator also participates in an On-Call rotation. Community building: The Residential Services Coordinator works closely with all staff to create a nurturing, supportive environment that facilitates families to build resilience and develop beyond the trauma. This involves setting expectations and implementing policies, practices and systems that sustain safety and growth. A piece of this is monitoring the environment for breaches to psychological and/or physical safety and intervening appropriately. As part of this, the Residential Services Coordinator facilitates a community meeting for residents once a week in the evening. Supervision: The Residential Services Coordinator supervises Evening staff and is expected to have regular contact with them individually and as a group. As decided with the Residential Director, the Residential Services Coordinator may also be responsible for the supervision of interns and volunteers. Documentation: The Residential Services Coordinator is expected to keep case records current, maintain outcome data, track services, submit routine reports for funding agencies and correspond with internal and external contacts. Projects: On occasion, the Residential Services Coordinator will be requested to participate in agency projects, including the coordination of the annual Holiday Celebration. Agency Linkages: To ensure collaborative & effective services, the Residential Services Coordinator works directly with the Child and Family Service Coordinator, the Housing Coordinator and the Afterschool team.
