Coordinates the iMovie Mentors program for pre-teen at-risk minority and immigrant boys, plans and implements program logistics, providing life skills instruction, case management and mentor consultation. Leads recreational and wilderness outings for iMovie Mentors program. Develops and implements anger management and other life skills courses. Represents agency at community meetings and special events. Successful applicant must have direct experience working with adolescents, enjoy youth, sports and the outdoors; participation with hiking, recreational activities, community service and camping are all requirements of the job, in addition to probation officer duties. Work Schedule is Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work required for special activities and wilderness trips. 11:30-8:00 p.m. during school year and more flexible hours during the summer months Minimum & Additional Requirements: Three years probation casework or intake experience; and completion of college level courses in sociology, psychology, social work, criminal justice, or a related field of study; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Employees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of their residence. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in probation, intake, social work or counseling and casework experience as well as significant experience working with at-risk or court-involved youth. Strong behavior management experience is required along with thorough knowledge of the principles of sociology and psychology relating to youth, family and/or adult counseling methods and skills; good understanding of of juvenile court procedures and laws; thorough knowledge of casework methods and client supervision practices; skill in correctional counseling; ability to develop youth employment opportunities, establish and maintain effective working relationships with youth and their families, unit staff, social service agencies, public officials, employers and businesses and the general public; ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, and the ability to analyze attitudinal and behavioral problems objectively. Employee must be able to work flexible work hours as necessary to accommodate programs. Bilingual Spanish speaker preferred.
