Life Haven, Inc. is a temporary shelter that provides a safe and nurturing environment for homeless pregnant women and women with young children. We are committed to assisting them in developing skills that will enable them to live independently. We are seeking an individual to provide direct care and educational support to homeless children in a licensed childcare setting. Responsibilities: Recruits and enrolls children aged 8 weeks to 2.9 years for Early Head Start classroom. Assists families to improve conditions and quality of family life. Visits home to assess strengths, needs, and goals with families. Support and assist families in emergencies. Refer families to community resources: health, social services, and other area resources. Accompany parents to appointments. Provide transportation to families as required. Engage in advocacy work on behalf of individual families. Empower families to become their own advocate. Develop plans with families. Conduct follow-up calls or home visits in cases such as: irregular attendance, incidences of three or more consecutive days of absences. Assist Health Coordinator with health screening and preventative health activities. Maintain accurate records. Update records. Provide a strong linkage between home and the program. Participate with an interdisciplinary team in regular case management. Assist in developing strong linkage between home and classroom. Participate in classroom activities. Other responsibilities as required. Qualifications: Bachelor?s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. Associate?s Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or related field. CDA. An equivalent of education and experience. Knowledge in referral system. Knowledge in basic child development. Knowledge in parenting. Knowledge in area resources. ?REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Experience in social service setting minimum 1 year Experience in working with children minimum 1 year ?REQUIRED SKILLS: Ability to work as part of a team as well as individually Ability communicate effectively both verbally and in writing Ability to maintain files, records, and other documentations Supervision: The Family Advocate will work as a part of a team of shelter staff. The Family Advocate will report to the Childcare Director. Salary: This is a full time position, paid hourly.
