Family Advocate Program (FAP) Victim Advocates provide victims of spouse abuse with information regarding safe and confidential ways to seek assistance, their rights as Navy spouses, military and civilian orders for protection, and available civilian and military resources. Crisis intervention, safety assessment and planning. Arrange transportation to shelters, medical, legal, and support group appointments. Accompany victims to interviews with investigative agencies and appearances in court. Consult with the FAP Case Manager regarding development of an appropriate plan of assistance/intervention which provides for the safety of the victim. Serve as a consultant to the Case Review Committee (CRC), when asked. Assist FAP Case Managers in making referrals to other helping agencies, when asked. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or other social service field with one year experience with domestic violence victims and crisis intervention OR * Four years of experience working with domestic violence victims DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Knowledge of family violence dynamics, local community resources, and federal and state laws pertaining to domestic violence, sexual assault and family law. Knowledge of the military, Department of Defense (DOD) and Family Advocacy Program (FAP). * Ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for victims. CCS Summary: Since 1969, Center for Community Solutions (CCS) has been creating safe and healthy communities with a core emphasis on the prevention and intervention of sexual assault and relationship violence. Our mission is to end relationship and sexual violence by being a catalyst for caring communities and social justice. Position Summary: Provides in-person advocacy and follow-up services for individuals who have been victims of sexual assault. Also provides crisis intervention and resource/referral services both in person and by phone to individuals seeking legal assistance, counseling, and other various supports related to sexual assault. Seeks out and maintains relationships with complementary organizations in order to build capacity in the community to expedite better results for sexual assault victims. Works as part of the Sexual Assault Victim Advocacy (SAVA) team and collaborates with all other CCS departments to provide comprehensive client services. Essential Job Functions: 1. Advocacy Services • Provide crisis intervention, peer individual/group counseling, advocacy, accompaniment (forensic exams, detective interviews, court), referrals, follow-up services and ongoing support to sexual assault survivors. Direct services to survivors include empowering, client-centered problem solving; education on choices and rights; and linkages to a wide range of services and resources. • Coordinate and/or provide sexual assault services in conjunction with the countywide Sexual Assault Response Team (SART), local law enforcement, and District Attorney’s office. Advocate on behalf of sexual assault survivors within various systems including social service, housing, finance, legal, health care, and education. • Organize and prioritize daily services and responsibilities to ensure that client needs are met. • Ensure professional relationships with clients to create an atmosphere of empathy, safety, and support. • Work to eliminate barriers to service, particularly for survivors from historically oppressed communities. • Maintain Sexual Assault Counselor status by completing required number of ongoing training on topics related to crisis intervention and ongoing support of domestic violence and sexual assault survivors annually. 2. Community Relations/Collaboration and Teamwork • Educate community members and professionals about sexual assault and CCS’s services and assist community agencies and organizations in creating sexual assault response protocols as directed. • Attend and participate in monthly multidisciplinary collaborative meetings as assigned. • Serve as a contributing member of the Sexual Assault Services team by participating in regular meetings with supervisor, site team, and department as well as trainings and development opportunities as assigned. • Maintain a working knowledge of San Diego County resources. Foster and maintain constructive working relationships with law enforcement and key community members. • Provide and participate in cross trainings to other Sexual Assault Response Team components (i.e., law enforcement, District Attorney’s office, Victim/Witness, and medical personnel). • Maintain positive working relationships with services that provide culturally competent services to a variety of different populations and language needs. • Maintain good working relationships with other Agency staff, volunteers, clients, community organizations, and SART members. 3. Administrative Responsibilities • Protect client confidentiality and obtain written consents from clients to release confidential information when coordinating service for clients with other entities. • Update and maintain the agency’s resource and referral guide according to protocol. • Maintain the highest levels of accuracy in record-keeping and reporting, ensuring that all client files and documentation are complete and up-to-date and submitted to supervisor as directed. • Maintain an up-to-date shared business calendar as directed. • Submit all personnel and departmental paperwork (e.g., timesheets, check requisitions) according to agency standards. • Gather statistical information and complete written reports in compliance with funding requirements. • Assist in evaluation of SAVA program in conjunction with SAVA Manager. • Carry out other duties as assigned.
