Social Worker/LSW
To meet clients’ and families’ needs, social workers are responsible for interviewing, determining eligibility, and coordinating specific programs. They may deal with medical hardships, crisis intervention, or any other complexities that may affect clients. Thorough knowledge of all social service aspects is necessary for this occupation.
Director
Responsible for all aspects of the social services department, the director plans and oversees all policies and procedures. Excellent management, organizational, and efficiency skills are necessary for this position. Care planning and resident assessment are common duties that require immense education and extensive experience.
Assistant Director
In charge of numerous administrative duties, assistant directors assist the social service director in all aspects of their daily activities by aiding in the planning and implementation of departmental goals and policies. Detailed records must be kept and reported concerning patient interview and assessment data.
Manager
These highly specialized occupations require immense experience and education for success. Managers evaluate patients and develop and implement plans for patient care during admittance and after release. The Social and emotional needs of patients and their families are their main concern.
Case Manager
Case managers develop proper treatment plans for patients while they are admitted to a healthcare facility, as well as keep track of the patient upon their release. They create long term care procedures for each patient and act as a liaison to patients and families during admission to their facility.
Counselor
By listening to patients, counselors attempt to determine any mental or emotional issues and/or problems and suggest possible treatments. They may work with a group, community, or individual, but all sessions generally include open discussion and conversation. Often working with many personal topics and situations, counselors must respect client privacy and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Crisis Therapist
Working with families, adults, or children in a variety of community settings, crisis therapists provide mental health crisis to community residents. They provide diagnostic risk assessments, therapy, and treatment, as well as follow-up services and assessments. Confidentiality is necessary to ensure patient privacy.
Family Therapist
By creating and implementing programs and plans geared toward family promotion, these therapists are responsible for numerous assistance programs. They communicate and coordinate necessary ideas that focus on encouraging family activities and overall health and safety. They must be able to manage other members in their department.
Information and Referral Specialist
When it is necessary to admit patients into more specialized programs, information and referral specialists complete the necessary steps for patient admittance. A patient’s pre-certification, registration, and concerns prior to an appointment are their responsibility. They gather necessary paper work and investigate insurance coverage to ensure smooth transitions to and from specialized programs.
Correctional Treatment Specialist
Employed in jails and prisons, correctional treatment specialists are in charge of evaluating and treating inmates. They work directly with other agencies such as probation officers in order to create and follow parole and release plans. When clients are eligible for release, they must make recommendations to the parole board based upon the inmate’s behavior and actions while they were incarcerated.
Child Advocate
By working directly with families, child advocates establish proper programs for children during hospitalization and through disabilities. They monitor patients closely to ensure proper development. Treatment generally includes therapy, activity among other patients, and medical procedures. Thorough medical knowledge is needed for these occupations.
Child Support Officer
In child welfare cases, if the designated parent fails to make support payments, child support officers are sought out to resolve issues as necessary. They investigate legal documents, interview witnesses, and locate absent parents in an attempt to resolve problems before legal actions must be taken. If necessary, they must contact the courts to obtain arrest warrants and other necessary documentation.
Delinquency Prevention Officer
Delinquency prevention officers are responsible for mentoring, organizing activities, and creating volunteer opportunities to occupy and protect community youths. Communities must be assessed and evaluated before determining the proper actions to take. Many projects are based on drug use in homes, youth truancy, family/community violence, and poor academic performance.
Job Coach
Not only do job coaches help determine what an individual wants to do with their life professionally, but they also create schedules and goals to help them achieve these objectives. They listen to goals and consider current situations to suggest the best possible ideas for each individual. Special training is necessary for these occupations.
Parole Officer
Once inmates have been convicted and served a large portion of their sentence, they may “parole out” of prison or jail. This allows them to serve the remaining portion of their sentence in the community with set rules and guidelines that must be followed or they will return to a correctional facility. Parole officers evaluate inmates while serving their sentence, and upon their release, take over their supervision. Inmates must check in with their parole officer to ensure all policies are being followed on a random check basis.
Probation Officer
Once an offense has been committed, sentencing may include probation. During this time, offenders must follow strict guidelines and adhere to all laws. If they are found in violation, probation officers begin the necessary steps to have them re-sentenced and incarcerated. They oversee all aspects of these offenders’ lives to ensure compliance to all set policies.
Community Planner
Community planners focus on supporting community health and safety by implementing, organizing, or managing projects, plans, and organizations geared toward the homeless, aging community, non profit city funded projects, and people improvement.
Administrator
Due to the number and importance of daily activities, extensive formal education is mandatory for an administrator position. These associates are responsible for the oversight of all activities in the social service department. They ensure proper patient care and assessment, as well as assist residents and their families in adjusting to their new surroundings.
Coordinator
To ensure compliance with government and organizational regulations, coordinators are responsible for a number of administrative duties and tasks. They maintain organization and efficiency as well as resolve issues and authorize tasks.
Social Work Assistant
In accordance with laws and organizational regulations, social work assistants aide families and individuals with enrollment to developmental and support programs. They coordinate community resources, training, and monitor progression closely. Confidentiality and discretion is a must for these careers.
