GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Responsible for maintaining a caseload of victims of impaired driving who are in need of short-term crisis intervention counseling, emotional support, facilitating grief support groups, and assessing appropriate referral sources for continued long term counseling needs. Assisting with court accompaniment, providing guidance with legal, financial, and medical systems for victims and work in conjunction with other Victim Advocates to provide consultation, training, and support where needed. ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide effective and timely assistance to victims who contact MADD for assistance. This assistance may include grief support assistance, crisis intervention, assessment of needed referrals for long-term counseling issues, and support group facilitation. Utilizes independent judgment based on assessments for needed referrals. 2. Make assessments of victim’s needs for emotional support, information, and referrals. Provide both on-going risk management and emotional support to maintain a current assessment of victim’s coping and need for further referrals. 3. Become familiar and maintain community resources for victim information/referral, sharing knowledge and information with victims and other victim advocates. 4. Implement beneficial interventions needed for victim support and outreach. 5. Utilize a network of key individuals in the criminal justice, legal, medical, and social service systems to facilitate assistance for victims. 6. Recruit volunteers to work as victim advocates from the general public and provide appropriate training and coaching in accordance with MADD guidelines. 7. Maintain accurate paperwork for each victim case according to MADD and grant standards and guidelines. 8. Developing, facilitating, and implementing appropriate victim programs. 9. Function as a resource and/or mentor for other Victim Advocates and Sr. Victim Advocates within MADD to provide assessment, provide training, and consultation on an as needed basis. 10. Other duties as assigned. POSITION REQUIREMENTS 1. Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology or other helping profession is required. 2. At least three years of experience in victim advocacy and/or grief support work. 3. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to establish rapport with individuals in difficult situations; and high level of customer service initiative required. 4. Ethical behavior and respect for confidentiality are a must in this position. 5. Reliable transportation to court attendance is required along with a flexible schedule.
