Fort Leavenworth is only 30 minutes from the Kansas City International Airport and 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City; as a result, the area offers many cultural, culinary, sporting and other entertainment opportunities. Standing at the crossroads of what was once a frontier outpost, Leavenworth itself contains many historical sites and landmarks. There are also many educational opportunities in the area: St. Mary's College is located in Leavenworth, Kansas.
