Description: PROBATION OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: Fort McDowell Tribal Court
REPORTS TO: Chief Judge or designee
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Supervise adults and juveniles placed on probation by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Tribal Court. Supervise adults and juveniles on parole or are otherwise directed to comply with terms or conditions set forth in any court order.
ESSENTIAL FUNCITONS:
Essential functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by positions in this class.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Creates and maintains policies, procedures, guidelines, directives, forms and materials to establish a probation office;
? Develops programs to meet goals of court-imposed probation;
? Develops and monitors individual probation service plans and imposes terms and conditions of probation / parole;
? Supervises adults and juveniles placed on probation or parole;
? Attends court proceedings;
? Monitors probationer?s or parolee?s terms and conditions by maintaining close contact with Family and Community Services Department, Prosecutor?s Office and Police Department; assigns probationers / parolees to community service work;
? Monitors probationer?s / parolee?s performance and maintenance of assigned tasks, programs or work;
? Meets with probationers / parolees as scheduled;
? Conducts unscheduled visits to the residence and / or place of employment;
? Visits treatment facilities, hospitals or other placement locations;
? Maintains individual and cumulative work and statistical records;
? Submits monthly client status reports and statistical information to the Court;
? Conducts and prepares Pre-sentence Investigation Reports with sentencing / disposition recommendations;
? Initiates or files petitions for probation or parole violations or modifications to the Court;
? Apprises the Court of the status of a probationer / parolee;
? Modifies conditions of probation or parole as authorized;
? Maintains strict confidentiality of all files and information;
? Administers and maintains adult?s and juvenile?s home and electronic monitoring system, i.e., SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor);
? Performs and conducts analysis on random UA tests; and
? Performs other duties assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
? Knowledge of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Constitution, Law and Order Code, Arizona Revised Statutes and Federal Indian Law;
? Knowledge of judicial protocol, proceedings, practices and techniques;
? Knowledge of community, regional and state counseling, support and social services; programs and resources;
? Knowledge of proper procedures to handle potentially dangerous situations involving fire arms, infectious diseases and vehicle accidents;
? Skill, knowledge and experience in maintaining a diverse caseload involving complex files, supporting materials and documentation;
? Skill in drafting, preparing and presenting court orders, reports and other documentation;
? Skill in developing, maintaining and monitoring individual treatment programs / plans utilizing Tribal and / or outside resources at times that may be outside of normal business hours / days;
? Skill in operating office equipment including a personal computer utilizing word processing, data base and spreadsheet software;
? Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation while also maintaining the impartial role of the Tribal Court.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Bachelor?s degree in administration of justice, counseling or related field OR AA degree and two years work experience in law enforcement, counseling or related field OR two years of experience as a probation officer, parole officer, law enforcement officer, or social services case manager and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the task.
2) Must have a current Arizona driver?s license and meet FMYN insurance standards.
PAYRATE: $43,766.00 - $52,519.21 per annum (depending on experience)
