YWCA Domestic Violence Victim Advocate, Hispanic Population -
Location: Knoxville, TN
Description: This is a full-time position for a Victim Advocate who will provide advocacy to Hispanic victims of domestic violence. This advocate will work closely with the Family Justice Center, Knoxville Police Department, and other partner agencies.
Skills:
? Bilingual (Fluent in oral and written English and Spanish)
? Leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
? Crisis intervention
? Knowledge of overall community resources
? Understanding of Hispanic cultures.
? Computer skills
Responsibilities:
? Counsel victims regarding domestic violence dynamics and legal / social options
? Provide direction and support to victims through the legal process
? Follow procedures in retrieving case files, completing forms, and documenting disposition of case
? Maintain confidentiality and ensure that partners maintain confidentiality
? Identify victims? immediate needs
? Interact with agencies / businesses within the Hispanic community to cultivate resources for Hispanic victims and their families
? Ensure the delivery of culturally and linguistically specific services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking
? Work with VAP staff and partner agencies to develop and implement training materials for persons working with Hispanic victims and a curriculum to educate Hispanic youth
Position requires a Bachelor?s degree or equivalent experience in victim assistance / legal advocacy or life experiences that indicate sensitivity to victim issues. Must have experience in and knowledge of the court system and domestic violence dynamics.
